Flatirons Locksmiths, a full service locksmith company Tip#15. Andy Greenburg of Forbes wrote an article a few weeks ago about hackers who “Crack hotel room locks with a tool disguised as a dry erase marker” that can “hack” a particular, very popular brand of hotel locks. I knew this day would come when they handed me my first “Credit Card” key to access my room at a hotel many years ago, what happened to the good old fashioned key I thought! I am just surprised that it has taken this long. I now know that I was not just a paranoid freak for always holding on to my valuables and locking the latch or deadbolt while staying at a hotel!!!
The problem with most locks of this kind is that a hacker can link up to them and manipulate them using software that they have developed to override the system. Our friends at Prodatakey though have developed an IP based access control device that is controlled via their IP based system and is more hacker proof than a standalone device.
